Smart battery isolator lithium install#Failure to install an isolator in a system when using the LCD-20, can result in the flattening of your vehicle's main cranking battery. Do I need to install an Isolator in the vehicle with the LCD-20? This is to ensure protection along the entire wiring circuit.īlack Anderson - Output to secondary battery It is recommended that a fuse/circuit breaker be fitted in line between the LCD-20 and both the input and the output batteries. The unit may be used loosely as an In line option, or, it may be fitted permanently via the mounting holes. Black Anderson connector: Output to secondary battery (Lithium battery).Grey Anderson connector: Input connection from the vehicle's alternator. The LCD-20 is fitted with easy 'quick connect' Anderson connectors This isolator will therefore act as the perfect option to allow the LCD-20 to start charging immediately with the vehicle's ignition, and will cease to charge immediately when the vehicle's ignition is switched off. In contrast to a VSR, an ignition activated isolator will engage immediately with the vehicle's ignition. If fitted to a newer model vehicle, then the voltage may be <13.5volts and consequently, a VSR may not engage to allow the LCD-20 to charge. The reasoning behind this recommendation is that a VSR isolator would usually require a minimum input voltage of 13.5volts from the alternator in order to engage charging. Thumper recommend that the isolator used with the LCD-20 is best suited as an ignition activated relay (rather than a traditional voltage sensitive relay, VSR). Unlike traditional DC chargers on the market, the Thumper LCD-20 is not fitted with an isolator component, meaning it MUST be used in conjunction with an existing dual battery isolator, or our Thumper TUR-L wiring loom. Simply use the LCD-20 in your 24Volt vehicle and it will again offer a filtered power output for charging lithium batteries at 14.5 Volts. The LCD-20 is designed to suit 24 Volt vehicles, with an input voltage between 8-36Volts. Allowing for an input voltage as low as 8 Volts and producing a filtered output of 14.5 Volts, this is the perfect choice for low voltage vehicles. Rated to 20 Amps, the LCD-20 offers a cost effective alternative for DC charging for Lithium batteries. (Note: Thumper offer a model designed to suit AGM/GEL type batteries - see link HERE) The Thumper LCD-20 is designed to be used an in line DC battery Charger, suitable for Lithium LiFePO4 batteries only.
